Legends

Where to start with this one..
So, Julia and myself have worked together in the vet industry for over 25 years, it's true to say that I was brought into the industry by a long-term friend being Alan Clarkson Technical Director from Celtic SMR.
However, getting into this difficult industry was pretty easy but staying here is where Julia came into it.
And now she's set to retire at the end of the year, I honestly am not sure how that's going to work in my mind but safe to say that this podcast which was born out of needing a distraction during a very difficult time and Julia being there for me has kept my sane - well mostly.
I was asked to say a few words during our Christmas party / Julia's retirement do and honestly, I couldn't. Now those that know me do know very well I don't have an issue with public speaking this was overall too much and being overcome with emotion is not a good look.
I did think typing this would be 100% easier and the perfect way to wuss out of the situation.
Now typing it I have no idea what to really say as I feel I cannot put enough words out either, yes I'm doing a rubbish job here.
All I can say is this, everything I have done in this industry I owe to you. Everything, learning the industry, dealing with the stresses of it all and even more so in my personal life- being around for me when ever needed. The true definition of a friend. I dread to think of the hours spent on the phone laughing, raging and even crying. The only thing I can cling to here is the fact the friendship will go on forever and you agreed to help with this podcast - You didn't put a time span on that!
And honestly, I think that the amazing team I work with now cannot fully comprehend that all the life and business skills I have are all brought out of time spent with this amazing lady.
2026 is going to be a very different space, as long as she's there for me at the end of that phone I'm good - unless we both call it a day and start the book we have been taking notes on for years.
Julia Beale, the legend and best mentor a guy could ever have. To say you will be missed from this industry is the mother of all understatements.
I need a drink.
Oh and for info the podcast audio is still being engineered ready to release before Christmas.
Gulp.
